Extended Definition Essay: Vengeful

Throughout time, one of the most prominent emotions is anger. It is impossible to imagine an event at any point in time that didn’t include some form of rage. However, when people get mad, they tend to do things in retaliation. The word used for this action is revenge or vengeance. That is why for this essay, I have chosen to use vengeful. The first known use of vengeful was circa 1586, nothing about the word is known after that. The Dictionary definition of Vengeful is: seeking to avenge. : serving to gain vengeance. vengefully. ˈvenj-fə-lē. This word is similar to revenge fullness, vengeance, and revenge. History is filled to the brim with many examples of vengefulness. An example of this eventfulness would be the Sepoy mutinies. After the British took over India, they enlisted many Indians into their army. and in their army, they had these bullet cartridges that they had to open by biting into them. little did the British know, that the cartridges were made out of animal fat, and that goes against the Indian religion. So many Indians revolted against the British because of this. A very obvious example of eventfulness would be the American Revolution. The American Revolution was founded on vengefulness and was led by vengeful people. It was all because as Americans we were mad about taxes and no representation in government. So Americans took revenge against the British by revolting against them. One of the biggest examples of vengefulness in history is the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. this was a pivotal time in history because this is one of the reasons World War One started. after he was assassinated, Austria-Hungary took revenge and decided to declare war on Bosnia which led to World War I starting. again, with all these examples it is clear that vengeful is a very important word in …show more content…

That is the section where Wilson tracks down the man who he believes is responsible for Myrtle's death. In a previous chapter, Wilson's wife Myrtle was run over and killed by who he presumed was Gatsby. After this event, Wilson had decided to track down and kill Gatsby because he believed he killed his wife. This quote then leads up to Wilson going to Gatsby's house and killing him at his pool.
