In the year 1984, October 1st, two Holy Cross Priests had the mere idea of creating a foundation to help the poor and homeless. By renting a house they started their own idea, by bringing in their first guest and creating something that will forever remain to offer hospitality. Slowly but surely, this organization formed many new members of volunteers to help as well. Not only did the volunteers increase, services were established that this organization offers, and many people from all over the Phoenix area started to send in donations such as clothes, blankets, and medical needs. Andre House of Hospitality is a non-profit organization, and because of this, they rely on “us”, the community, to do our part to help the less unfortunate.
“My children’, my firmest hopes of future happiness were placed on the prospect of your union” (Shelley 25). This quote clarifies Victor’s mother last wishes that consisted of requesting the marriage of Victor and Elizabeth. Both Mary and Victor are placed present with their mates in front of their admired mothers in an act that showed how powerful their bond with their mothers
Victor leaves his family and goes to Geneva to attend the university at Ingolstadt. Getting suggestions from other professors that he’s wasting time studying alchemists he changes what he’s studying and studies Chemistry by Professor Waldman the suggestion by the professor leads him to investigate further science causing him to ignore his social life and his family so he can focus on his creation and later he studies how the human body is built so it can get easier for him to make a living human from bones. After learning everything about humans, how they operate, and how they were made, he gets closer to finding out how to make living humans but because of this creation he had to do illegal things like stealing old bones from different graveyards and this is the reason he keeps himself away from his family and friends because the way he was trying to make his creation is wrong and he wanted to keep it secret from everyone because he didn’t want anyone to know that he knows the secret of
Victor was a young boy when his curiosity sparked an interest in modern science and natural philosophy. After spending his childhood reading about philosophers and alchemists, he entered the University of Ingolstadt to continue pursuing these interests. He soon met a professor who inspired his new found attention to the mysteries of creation. However, his curiosity soon turned into an obsession and Victor spent the next few years researching the fundamental concept of life. He began isolating himself from family and friends and spent all his time deep in research, deprived of sleep and health.
Victor has had supportive people around him since birth; however now that he is at the university he has nobody to help keep him level headed. "Every night I was oppressed by a slow fever, and I became nervous to a most painful degree; the fall of a leaf startled me, and I shunned my fellow creatures as if I had been guilty of a crime" (35). The isolation being portrayed by Victor is now shifting from not only
He would move all over Italy, However after his aunt's death they would adopt Elizebeth, his cousin. After a few years, Victor would attend Ingolstadt where he would begin his education to be a scientist, possibly because of his mother who died of scarlet fever. After he studies chemical processes and the decay of living things, he gains knowledge about the creation of life and death. So he begins the process to give life to a creature that he soon considers an abomination and does not even give him a name. Victor states this when he says, “But now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust has filled my heart.”
When Victor rejected The Creatures want for a girl companion he replied, “I go; but remember, I shall be with you on your wedding night.” When this was said, Victor knew of the possible danger that Elizabeth was now in but refused to warn her of this danger and this lead to her death. The penalties that Victor faced due to keeping the existence of this creature a secret it what lead to the deaths of the people that he cared for, and the fact that he had the ability to save these lives but chose to not even try says a lot about
He failed his parental duty to take care of his child and his needs and as a result he got Elizabeth killed. Finally, Victor learns that he has been in the wrong the entire time so he pledges to end his creation even if its the death of him. “I, who irretrievably destroyed thee by destroying all thou lovedst. Alas! He is cold, he cannot answer me” (237).
By objectifying and claiming Elizabeth as his own, he promises to cherish and always protect her. This signifies the insensitivity of a woman’s importance in society. During Victors life, women were nothing but an object of affection or a object. Caroline, Victor’s mother, dies a respectable death.
It was a little girl Elizabeth, who seemed to set a crown of distinction on her head. Caroline adopted her and raised her up to a young lady. When Elizabeth became older Caroline explained to her that she wanted Elizabeth and Victor to become more than cousins. Caroline wanted them to marry. After they married Elizabeth worried that victor might not love her anymore.
(30). Victor becomes enamored with science and ideas that come with the subject. Victor wants to unlock all of the knowledge that science brings for the sake of his own enrichment. This leads Victor to become obsessed with the idea of creating life and soon finds a way to do so. “ It was with these feelings that I began the creation of a human being.”(33).
Victor studied organic chemistry in college to further develop and learn the skills about the recreation of life which he was interested in. He soon got the crazy idea to make a creature of his own, Victor becomes so obsessed with reanimating the dead he begins to collect body parts from corpses in a nearby grave. Victor follows through and makes the creature but flees because he gets frightened by the outcome. Once he leaves Victor realizes what he has done and that his actions lead to the destruction of everyone that he cared about. These events ultimately led to his downfall hinting that the knowledge of life is too dangerous to understand.
During the recent years homelessness has increased eminently. Although homelessness is not a new phenomenon it has become a huge social issue in today’s society. In urban areas homelessness is visible by the masses but ignored by society’s negative perception. Characterized as unstable individuals, alcoholics and criminals by society, these negative stereotypes have only escalate the issue. Homeless can occur at any stage of life for multitude of factors.
Because of this, Elizabeth had to play all feminine roles towards Victor: mother figure, sister, and wife. While Elizabeth becomes like a mother, Victor had already formed a friendly bond with her. Victor describes Elizabeth as “gentile and affectionate” (20), motherly characteristics, but Victor would never be able to see Elizabeth as a mother. Elizabeth and Victor had grown up together since the age of four. She was the only one who could make him forget his troubles, and he was the only one who could console her after the death of William and Justine.
Shelley depicts this unique affection Victor has for Elizabeth with this quote from Victor: On the evening previous to her being brought to my home, my mother had said playfully, “I have a pretty present for my Victor—tomorrow he shall have it.” And when, on the morrow, she presented Elizabeth to me as her promised gift, I, with childish seriousness, interpreted her words
