Newell Woods Ms. Christensen English 12B-2 1 May 2018 Ultimately Horrible Frankenstein’s monster is undoubtedly the ultimate horror character. The creature is a being who is assembled from the body parts from various humans. Being composed completely of the appendages of several deceased individuals is quite disturbing. Frankenstein’s monster also has no regard for human life. The monster enjoys murdering innocent people for revenge, although it seems that he actually enjoys it. The creature has more than a grown man’s body but the mentality of a small child. Having the mental capabilities of a child and the physical abilities of a giant is frightening to think about. The mentality of a child and body of a man, enjoying killing people, …show more content…

Victor Frankenstein describes his creature as, “His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath; his hair was of a lustrous black, and flowing; his teeth of a pearly whiteness; but these luxuriances only formed a more horrid contrast with his watery eyes, that seemed almost of the same colour as the dun white sockets in which they were set, his shrivelled complexion and straight black lips”(Shelley 30). The colouring of these limbs were not normal considering they were dug out of the ground and are from the corpses of dead people. The sickly yellow hue was the unnatural colour of his whole body and that is horrifying. The description of the creature’s eyes especially haunt me because of the lack of feeling that they must convey. Frankenstein’s monster also is about eight feet tall which is extremely uncommon and intimidates people. Small children and those with faint hearts are easily spooked by the monster. The monster is a brute and because of his physical size he can murder whoever he wants. He murders William without a second thought and the only remorse that can be seen is when he gives back the picture of Caroline. This hardly means anything though because the creature just killed an innocent young boy. The creature only kills humans for a large portion of his life and he forages for berries and nuts in the forest. He does not kill animals until later when Victor is chasing him “You will find near this place, if you follow not too tardily, a dead hare; eat and be refreshed”(142). After a long period of killing several people, the monster decides it is ok to kill a hare even though its life is much less important than a human life. The bloodlust the monster has seems to only be able to be satisfied by killing humans Victor cares about. The creature causes the deaths of William, Justine, Henry Clerval, Elizabeth, and eventually Victor. Although Frankenstein’s monster did not directly kill Justine and Victor, his actions led to their demise. The most depressing murders are those of William and Elizabeth. William was just a small child and had done nothing wrong and still had his whole life ahead of him. The creature killing William is very sad and illustrates just how awful the creature is. The murder of Elizabeth is additionally heartbreaking for both the reader and Victor.
