Victor Hugo has written several books. I have read Les Misérables and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I was first introduced to Victor Hugo’s work when I was twelve, watching the movie version of Les Misérables. I later became so fascinated with the movie that I had to read the books. My fascination took off the moment I picked up the book. I later began searching the history of his life, and I yearned to read more of his books. After I finished reading Les Misérables, I went to my school’s library, but sadly they had only one book written by Victor Hugo, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Victors Hugo’s work has always been fascinating.
Victor-Marie Hugo was born on February 26, 1802, in Besancon, France to Joseph Leopold Hugo and Sophie Trebuchet. He was the youngest of three he had two older siblings Eugene Hugo and Abel Joseph Hugo. In 1868, Victor lost his wife, Adele. Three years later he lost a son, then he lost another two years later. In 1870 Hugo returned to Paris and was elected deputy in the National Assembly but resigned a month later, the trials he faced earlier took a total of his energy. Hugo no longer had the strength to fight for his older ideas. In 1878 Hugo contracted a cerebral congestion. However, it was not fatal for he lived seven more years. In honor of his 80th birthday, the road he was living on was renamed after him. Victor-Marie Hugo died on May 22, 1885, in Paris, France. Hugo was given a national funeral and was put to rest under the Arc De Triomphe and buried in the Patheon. He left behind marvelous pieces of literature reflecting his life and fought for what he believed in. Les Misérables continues to be read by many; it had even been created into a movie and a musical, both being successful. Although he is gone, his writing will live
