And the beloved father who carried on only for the sake of his family. They were all resilient, holding onto their faith, strength, and integrity.

They luckily have the ball on the opposing teams one-yard line. The sailors quickly break the huddle and run to the line, as time is quickly running off the clock the center snaps the ball to the quarterback. As soon as he touches the ball he puts the ball up on his shoulder indicating that it is a pass.
The novel The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas, takes place during post revolutionary France. It follows the story of a young sailor named Edmond Dantès. Dantès is wrongfully sent to jail by men, who each benefit in some way from his downfall. After being imprisoned for fourteen years, his desire for vengeance on those who wrong him increases. He escapes from jail with the mindset that he must reap his revenge on those who wrong him.
A scene that struck me was an ever so simple one yet, it continuously set an effective tone throughout the rest of the play. A set that was once occupied by Wendy’s bedroom soon became a dark and eerie setting that included an obscure pirate ship. As this set continued to remain impervious, figures appeared from stage left. A green light then illuminated the entire set, continuing the peculiar theme in this scene. Emerging from the shadows came a tall, erect figure.

One perspective bringing the novella The Old Man and the Sea to life is a 19 minute animated film directed by Aleksandr Petrov in 1999. The film was made in a unique artistic style, by painted glass plates sliding over one another. The film won numerous awards including the Oscar for the best animated short film.

Born in Port-au Prince, Haiti, Danticat’s background of Haiti, brings authenticity to the novel. The motif of family and friendship that thread throughs Danticat’s stories, suggests that even though people may be in times of despair, loved ones can bring a sense of hope. Hope is illuminated in “Children of the Sea”, through the unnamed boy and girl 's relationship.
The novel, The Old Man and the Sea, is a story about an old man, Santiago, who experienced great adversity but did not give up. The author, Ernest Hemingway, describes how an old man uses his experience, his endurance and his hopefulness to catch a huge marlin, the biggest fish he has ever caught in his life. The old man experienced social-emotional, physical, and mental adversity. However, despite the overwhelming challenges, he did not allow them to hold him back but instead continued to pursue his goal of catching a fish with determination. Santiago’s character, his actions and the event in the novel reveals an underlying theme that even when one is facing incredible struggles, one should persevere.

Hugo was born into a world where men were beaten for being poor and executed for having the slightest deformity. Hugo indirectly shared his thoughts on social injustice in the forms of works that include, but are not limited to Les Miserables, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, The Last Day of a Condemned Man, and Claude Gueux. There was not a day in his life in which his fellow countrymen were not dying on the vast plains of Spain, the marshes of Italy, or the frozen Russian abyss that is Siberia.
Every novel or stories gives a fundamental ideas or lesson for the readers. Most of the lesson are informative and it brings a changes to the readers mind. There will be a universal of an ideas explored in a literature and readers can abstract numerous themes depending on each individual. Similarly, in the novel “the old man and the sea” Hemingway depicted several themes related to nature, people and so on. However determination can also be one of the theme for the readers because the old man, Santiago didn’t gave up fishing even if he had cramp but he took this as an encouragement in his old age.
Hemingway presents the elements of failure and suffering in The Old Man and the Sea by depicting several instances of suffering and failure which the Old Man, Santiago, has to go through throughout the course of the novel. According to Hemingway, life is just one big struggle. In the beginning of the novel itself, The Old Man, is presented as a somewhat frail old man who is still struggling with his life as well as his past failures. His skiff even had a sail which bore great resemblance to “the flag of permanent defeat”, with its multiple patches all over.
