Steve Jobs, Miley Cyrus, Justin Beiber, these are the people we commonly associate with successful careers. However, a new type of “fame and fortune” is arising. A type in which entertainment videos are posted on a website called YouTube. People often say YouTube a career because it “Requires no skill” or “Does not take any effort.” However, YouTube is a valid career. YouTube is a credible career because it presents in a social setting, provides a significant profit, and teaches skills that open up many other career oppurtunities. YouTube is a valid job because it presents a social setting. VidCon, a social convention that started in 2010, gathers 20,000 creators and viewers combined every year. This convention brought video creation to life. Much like other careers, YouTube has social gatherings to bring content creators together. VidCon had an outcome of 20,000 attendees in Anaheim, California from all over the globe. This showed the world that YouTube is more than just a social media website. Statistics show that 60% of all content creators make a living off YouTube revenue. That is 60% of primary content creators living off the videos they make. Some of the biggest YouTubers such as Tyler Oakley, Felix Kjellberg, and Anthony Padilla made an average of over $6 million in the year 2015. For every video a content creator makes, They make about $7.60 per thousand view. The average YouTuber makes 2-3 videos a week. This means if each video got 2-6 million views, they would be making somewhere around $8,000 a month. Not including other opportunities they receive, for example, Bethany Mota getting the opportunity to partner with Aeropostale to create her own clothing
