Women and Video Games World Wide In the modern world of video games, it is clear that males dominate most of the industry today; they make the characters, they design the games and majority of those who play these games are male. This leads to a tough position for women and young girls alike. It causes them to have unhealthy and unrealistic body images. It leads to racial profiling and bases an accepted industry on the sex of women worldwide. Because women have pregnancies, some people might be worried about the female workers not being able to finish their work on time, especially during a crunch time, but studies shown by the International Game Developers association state that 53 percent of workers believe that a crunch time period is unnecessary and just causes additional stress to the workers (Makuch). With the growth of the video game industry there has been an increased development in the sexual objectification of women in games. According to the article, "Violence against Women in Video Games: A Prequel or Sequel to Rape Myth Acceptance?" female characters are designed as prostitutes, strippers and so on (Beck, et al.). What is worse is the fact that not only are these female characters sexualized but many of these games allow gamers to partake in virtual violence (e.g., battery, murder) against women (Beck, et al.). With characters like this it is easy to see why many girls shy away from video games. Because of the increased number of games showing violence against women and the increase in negative imagery it has some worried about the social behavior acquiring because of these video
