Donavan Wood 8th Grade English Mrs. King April 26, 2016 Are Video Games Too Violent? Have you gotten tired of seeing your child playing games like Call Of Duty or Grand Theft Auto or you’ve stopped playing because you think they’re too violent? Since their popularity started up in the 1970’s, video games have been a huge part of many people’s lives, but some people have begun to fear that they’ve gotten a little too violent these past few years. The reality is that games aren’t really any more violent than they used to be, as finding that research is too few and quite inaccurate, as well as after seeing some information from huge databases, the situation has been settled. Furthermore, it says that over the appx. 20 years the ESRB has existed, 94% of all games they ever rated were E, E10+, or T. A third reason people say video games are too violent is that they’re antisocial and cause this type of behavior among people, but this is quite the opposite, really. The ESA explains that the most frequent gamers play on average 6.5 hours every week playing online, and playing 5 hours every week with someone else in person. The ESA also points out that 56% of gamers normally play with others, whether it be friends, family, etc. It would seem that no one plays alone these days. Due to the lack of research and after taking a look at some of the facts from database systems, it’s been proven how video games aren’t so violent after all. Anyone can say that games are violent, but the truth is that most who do just don’t like them. It’s hugely biased and many can agree on this. Don’t fight against games, if someone doesn’t like them, they could just avoid them. Games are a part of the entire world’s culture, and they’ll never back down, so stop
