Did you know that the video games average people play can affect how they live? Most of these games people play daily are rooted in violent activities, which can end up changing their lifestyle and how they act in a negative way. These games can turn out to be very addicting and can be a distraction. Teens should not be exposed to violent role-playing video games because they are addicting, too violent and can have a huge impact on the human brain.
While most video games are addicting, violent role playing games in particular are tremendously addicting. Games that fully take a person’s time and attention can cause them to be antisocial, create mental disorders and health problems. Players can eventually pick up behaviors in the game and act like the characters. Andrea Norcia, author of “The Impact of Video Games,” states that “Playing video games may increase aggressive behavior because violent acts are continually repeated throughout the video game. This method of repetition has long been considered an effective teaching method in reinforcing learning patterns” (1). Norcia is showing that people tend to fall under the influence of not only the game’s violence, but also the mannerism. Teens can also receive more of an impact. “its target is younger people with developing brains” (Tighe 1). Both Tighe and Norcia are concluding that people are being exposed to violent activities which can cause them to use these actions in real life situations. Though some video games may help people with their learning skills, most video games are known to cause damage to the brain. “Preoccupation with video games and playing them virtually non stop short-circuits young brains’ ability to develop problem solving and coping skills, as well as strategies to navigate through life” (Tighe 1).
