Historians over the past years have been uncertain who the first Europeans to the Americas were. Evidence has shown that the first Europeans to set foot in the New World were the Vikings led by Leif Erikson, also known as Leif the Lucky. They sailed to the Americas in the year 1000 A.D. They set up camp in the north on the islands above Canada. We know that the Vikings were the first Europeans in the New World as evidenced by written records, oral tradition about the life of Leif the Lucky and archeological findings. There are written records that are excellent primary sources. The Vikings had an oral tradition and committed to memory family history and special occasions. They were later written down.
