“Perfection is not attainable, but if we can chase perfection, we can catch excellence” is something that every Green bay Packers player knew, and the man who said was the greatest head coach of all time; Vince Lombardi. In this essay, it will be talked about how Lombardi lived his early life into his early coaching career and finally about how he created a team that was nothing into a team that would become the greatest dynasty in the history of the NFL.

Vince got his first coaching job at St. Cecilia high school, and after a successful stint with them, he went to coach at his Alma Mater, Fordham, Where he became so successful that the great Army Academy hired him as a position coach while he learned under the great Red Blaik. After having a successful stint with the Army Academy, he was hired to his first NFL job as an offensive coordinator for the New York Giants, Where he had a very successful run that included an NFL Championship in 56 before taking the job as the head coach for the Green Bay Packers, where he would create a dynasty. This was important as this is where he learned about the analytical part of the game and learned about what plays to run and what not, which made his teams better than everyone else's. In Vinces first season at the helm, he led the team to an 8-4 record while implementing the “Lombardi Sweep”, a play that coaches tried, but could never be stopped. While an 8-4 record is good, there needs to be more to become a dynasty and Vince got that in the draft from 1960-1964, where he was able to draft Hall of Famers Paul Hornung, Jim Taylor, Ray Nitschke, Jerry Kramer, Forrest Gregg, and Bart Starr and with those as his building blocks, he was able to lead the packers to 5 consecutive championships from 65-69, including the first 2 inaugural super bowls. That five year run of success is what everyone knows Lombardi for as he lead a team from nothing to something in just under a decade and would catapult the packers to be the great team they once were and always have been since the 60s. All in all, Vince went to the Packers with nothing and in just under a decade created something that will never be duplicated and made every fan a Packer
