Violence In America
Throughout the history of the United States is a gruesome path of violence. Ever changing issues in america stirring the pot for continuous acts of crime, and hate. The endless cycle so it seems, affecting our daily lives, the ever changing issues causing new challenges to be overcome for the citizens of the US. Writers like Cormac MCarthy bring to light the violence in America through the popular book No Country For Old Men. The United States has endured numerous wars, among mental illness, the depression, the black equality movement, the equality for women, terrorists, drug dealers and other havoc wreaking situations. The Character of Llewellyn is a vietnam war veteran of two tours, he craves action in his suttle life. He knows its wrong to take the money, and that the ramifications for his greed could be deadly. This being said, corruption in this novel lead to so many deaths by Chigurh chasing the money, leaving a trail of bodies behind him, to the mexicans also leaving a trail of bodies...including the body of Llewellyn. Even in his death, his loved ones like Carla Jean are not spared from the ramifications of his initial greed and poor moral choices. A happily never after, as usually promised in Film Noir. The gore in this novel speaks strongly about the violence in america, noir supporting this theory all the more. Almost 15 years after the novel No Country For Old Men was first published, and still it speaks truth about our society. The drug cartels are murdering endlessly for blood money, and the addictions to drugs are just following violence. Complications following the drugs, money, death and greed are people dying from over dose, bad biddings, gang relations, crime relations. Currently the United States has declared by the President a Nationwide state of emergency due to Opiod Addictions. This is being said by several news groups such as The Washington Standard, The Citizen, Fortune, excetra. Clearly society is facing similar challenges that Mccarthy presents in his novel. Said that if they turned him out he'd do it again. Said he knew he was going to hell. "Be there in about fifteen minutes". I don't know what to make of that. I sure don't. The crime you see now, it's hard to even take its measure. It's not that I'm afraid of it. I always knew you had to be willing to die to even do this job. But, I don't want to push my chips forward and go out and meet something I don't understand. A man would have to put his soul at hazard.
