As the days went past still no Odysseus my master I will not die without seeing him until then I will hold on to the grass and be the brave Odysseus dog and try to take the pain of these suitors not feeding me abusing me . I will hide under a mass of dung until I wish to see my Odysseus so I can let go. Odysseus lived in a time where there was no court of law to determine punishment and justice. For Odysseus to kill around 50 men just so they would not marry his wife, was immensely violent and brutal, but it was necessary. It was both morally and ethically correct to kill these suitors especially since there was no law enforcement back in this time period. This justice system was the norm for people of that age and no regrets or mercy is needed.

Odysseus needed to think of a way to get them out of there and fast before they all became lunch to Polyphemus. Odysseus’s plan was to offer him wine and to get on his good side before he had gotten drowsy and went to bed. After the cyclops had fallen asleep, Odysseus started putting his plan into action. He had taken the trunk of an olive tree and started carving away at the edges to make a spear shape.
In the Odyssey, Odysseus had to go to The Land of the Dead in order to speak with Tiresias who is a dead sage. He had to ask him about his future and how to get back to his homeland, Ithaca. He gave him useful information that helped him with his life. For example, he said to avoid the cattle of Helios. He is the god of the sun.
While Odysseus’ actions taken to punish the suitors may appear immoral in modern society, by considering the ways in which modern society differs from Homeric society, Odysseus’ actions are just in the context of the poem. As violence has an extremely negative connotation in modern society, the use of the death penalty is morally ambiguous, and is a highly debated topic; however, violence is far more legitimized in the society of the Odyssey, and therefore, death is a far more acceptable form of punishment. This idea is exemplified by the way in which violence is discussed between characters within the Odyssey. In particular, this general acceptance of violence is demonstrated through the fact that many of the characters within the Odyssey share an almost unanimous belief that the suitors should be put to death to pay for their crimes.

In The Odyssey, the Cyclops is a monster because of his key differences from mere human beings, specifically his lack of wit and of morals. Depicting these qualities as monstrous support that cleverness and a general regard for human life were heavily valued in Greek culture. Odysseus easily trick the Cyclops bragging, “I poured him another fiery bowl - three bowls I brimmed and three he drank to the last drop, the fool”(9.404-406). To describe the bowls of wine as fiery foreshadows the demise of the Cyclops. Odysseus was able to use his brain, not strength, to make the Cyclops drink himself into a stupor.
More than that, he will have great fame in his homeland if he returns more than anywhere because he was a king of his country and people there know him, love and respect him after he went to the Trojan’s war, he had fame throughout the Greece as a man from Ithaca and if he returns his land even facing those struggles, his people from Ithaca will treat him like a god and sing the song for generation to generations. Odysseus’ slaughter of the suitors was an act of justice and revenge. The act was revenge because slaughtering 108 men for courting your wife and eating your food is insane. If someone did that present-day, society would frown upon the person who committed such an act. It would be considered mass-homicide and the person would be jailed for life. On the other hand, the act is a form of justice because of the setting of the story.
Summary: Cyclops In the story, Odysseus is still speaking to the Phaeacians, but is now telling them of his encounter with Polyphemus, the cyclops. Strong winds blew Odysseus and his men to Polyphemus’ island, where they unloaded and entered a cave that Polyphemus happened to live in. When he entered the cave, he closed the entrance with a large boulder that only he could move, trapping himself, his sheep, and Odysseus inside. After he ate some of Odysseus’ men, Odysseus devised a plan to get the cyclops to move the boulder so that the men could escape.
