In today's society, as well as in the Odyssey, violence almost always seems to be the answer, in reality violence is almost never the answer. For example, in the Odyssey when Odysseus returns to find men trying to marry his wife, he confronts the men and says, “You forced yourselfs upon this house. Fight your way out.”(958) In another passage in the Odyssey, Odysseus shows unnecessary violence while receiving advice he asks, “Can I pass charybdis, or fight off Scylla.”(930) Instead of asking how to avoid scylla.
