Video games have been apart of American families ever since their introduction to society. Video games have gone from big boxes and low quality screening, to small boxes that are able to transport the player into the game. They have many purposes, and their main one is to entertain the people. However, many forget about those who are responsible for the creation and/or distribution of video games. And it doesn’t even stop at that, these industries and locations, are also responsible for allowing fellow gamers to bond, and allow families to have quality time together. However, even with the major drought of video games, their were arcade cabins that saved the gaming industry, it played the role of keeping the gaming industry alived by uniting people. It created friendly competition that caused many people to join and play a game of Pac-Man or Street Fighter. As an end result, arcades, which contains video games, allowed people to simply connect and bond. That was around 30 years ago, now, people go to specific locations like video game stores, or conventions that are based upon video games. In these locations fellow video gamers may not play, but atleast get to discuss their opinion about video games, which shows an indirect people can bond in a location without the need of playing video games. Video game retail stores have competed ever since the introduction of video games in America. This competition has caused many companies to develop more and more video games, causing the retail stores to keep selling. This at the same time has caused for some companies to fall, or at least sent some companies to a temporary recession. In 1995 video game consoles that went by the name of Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation failed to boost the sales of Neostar. Neostar at the time was a business partner with Babbage's. Not many companies worried about the rise of Babbage's. During its rise, they were one of the few stores that received the new gaming systems that society demanded. Due to the failure of other companies to see the potential of Babbage's, they were forced to improve their electronic sales and make sure they were on top. This lead to decrease in of profit for Babbage's on 1996 (Kline). The evidence states that Babbage’s, which is now known as GameStop, has made it into the video game market to cause a stir among other retail stores. Although they had entered the market with some financial issues, they still managed to make it to the top. Their presence in the market has made it very different.
