The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine is an unique partnership between a public research university (Virginia Tech) and a private health care provider (Carilion Clinic) is a fully accredited, private four-year medical school. The school is among the first of the new generations of medical schools in the United States. When considering a medical school a person would choose Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine because they offer a dynamic curriculum, extraordinary approach, and offer a rigorous experience. Virginia Tech is one of the only schools who use patient cases with an intensive problem-based learning curriculum. Virginia Tech’s research program is integrated throughout the four years of study, requiring them to produce a research project of publishable quality before graduation. Also the school is the one of the few in the country to thread interprofessional learning throughout the curriculum. Virginia Tech School of Medicine offers a rigorous experience to all of their students. The school averages 42 students and provides them with individualized attention, intense student participation, and a rich educational experience. Each student is assigned to an ambulatory clinic for a one-half day per month from the beginning of phase 1. Students will then continue this partnership through the end of their second year before they begin clinical rotations in their 3rd and 4th year. The goal of Longitudinal Ambulatory Care Experience is to provide students with a real longitudinal clinical experience from the start of their medical education.
