The Girl in the Woods Visual Analysis We have all heard the cliché "a picture tells a thousand words". Photos are ways for photographers to tell their story. Pictures help us to communicate and to learn. Bright colors grab our attention while muted colors we seem not to notice. In the picture of the girl in the woods, through the use of symbolic images and faded colors of the background, the focal point is sinister. First, the focal point of the picture is the girl as she is standing in the woods. She is in the forefront of the picture. The background of the picture is the woods. Her back is arched as though she is falling backward. She is holding out her hand toward an ominous male hand who is trying to summon her. Does the hand belong to a passing stranger, or someone she knows? Her face is hidden, turned away from the camera as if to say, like a small child, if I can't see you, then you can't see me either. Symbolic elements such as possession is when another being takes over the body of another being. Below her dress, her feet are unnoticeable. She seems to be floating in the air maybe from being possessed by a demon or controlled by a witch. Her left arm is stretched out in front of her body reaching out towards the ominous hand. Whose hand is she reaching? Is she under a spell like that of a vampire? Or is she the vampire, maybe a young witch calling her minion, or maybe she's a siren calling for her next human
