How far will advertisers go in their attempts to sell a women’s vitamin? Far enough to exploit the biblical story of Adam and Eve. Visualize the Garden of Eden, with a partially nude man and woman shown from the waist on up. Two leaves adorn the top half of the woman’s body while a peak of blue jeans appears to cover the bottom half of the man adding a modern day twist. Standing close together, they are surrounded by a green backdrop and a few palm leaves. Hanging down beside the woman is a serpent or a snakelike creature with an evil grin and a few blurry red apples appear along the top of the page. Seductive, powerful, and in control is characterized on the woman’s facial expression as she holds up the vitamin in one hand deciding whether or not to be tempted to taste the vitamin. Skepticism illustrates the man’s facial expression along with one hand on his hip, adding the element of humor. The stylistic use of humor is meant to “soften the concept and mask any aggressive tones” that could be implied from the original story of Adam and Eve (Petracca 68-69).
