The selected corporation is the Volkswagen, a German car manufacturer headquartered in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. The Volkswagen’s corporate website is http://www.vw.com/. According to the International Ethical Business Registry, there has been a dramatic increase in the ethical expectations of businesses and professions over the past ten years. Increasingly, customers, clients and employees are deliberately seeking out those who define the basic ground rules of their operations on a day to day. Davis (as cited by Khalidah, Zulkufly, & Lau, 2014) defined Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as “… the firm’s consideration of, and response to, issues beyond the narrow economic, technical, and legal requirements of the firm. It is the firm’s obligation to evaluate in its decision-making processes the effects of its decisions on the external social system in a manner that will accomplish social benefits along with the traditional economic gains, which the firm seeks. By analyzing the code of ethics, and how the company incorporates that in their company’s social responsibility, we can understand that social responsibility has long been at the heart of Volkswagen’s corporate culture. One of the two core elements in Volkswagen responsibility to the society is the ability to serve the community in a long run. Besides that, Volkswagen commitment to the corporate social responsibility is not superficial or made up. It works to create sustainable structural development for both economic and social stimulus as well as the opportunity for stakeholders. Volkswagen supports projects that promote culture and art, education, science, health and sport. They believe that as a company with global operations they have a duty of responsibility towards the global society that cannot be fulfilled simply by applying charity. In short, Volkswagen’s code of ethics does help the company in meeting the company’s social responsibility. It’s about making life better for everyone, not just a few. From individuals to communities, environment to enterprise. It’s not about fixing one part, but making sure all the parts work so Volkswagen can move forward
