I volunteered through an organization called Feeding Many. As a volunteer, we planted community gardens where the food produced is donated for those struggling to afford their daily needs. In preparation for joining the NHS, I was an active member of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) and accrued over 70 hours of volunteer time during my tenure. As a middle school student I volunteered as a leader for WEB (Where Everybody Belongs). WEB is a program that assigns a responsible leader/mentor for a group of incoming sixth graders to help them acclimate to their first year of middle school.
Also my participation with Florida Atlantic University Weppner Center for Lead & Service. I have had the opportunity to volunteer for some wonderful Non-profit organizations where I have gained a great deal of valuable skills and experiences. One of the greatest experience I have gain through my participation in this organization was when I participated in Owl Breaks which is an alternative spring break where I had the chance to dedicate an entire week to serving others and learning about a new community and the many complex issues that affected it. What I benefited from this experience is that I got to make difference, and I got learn about the social issues by working alongside those who were directly affected and I got to build leadership skills and future involvement
I have done countless hours of community service and do not plan on stopping any time soon. I am mainly involved with TCLBAF (Tri-Cities Lady Bulldogs Athletic Foundation) Inc., where our mission is to mentor youth in our community. We expose them to a numerous amount of sports and performing arts opportunities and also assist with their academic needs (tutoring, helping with school work, etc). Being a high school student myself, I deem this organization to be very beneficial. Along with TCLBAF, I’ve volunteered with the AVID department at my school.
Through volunteering you interact with people less fortunate and hear their stories. Some people lost their jobs and can't find income. Then you have other people who are out of work because they broke their leg. The result of all these horrible things happening to them it made our paths cross. Given that I was born and raised in Puerto Rico by two Haitian parents, I’ve always had a strong concern for the poor living conditions in developing countries. For this reason, I am deeply passionate for international development focused on education, human rights and health. I consider working with the Peace Corps one of the highest possible callings. My wonderful years in academic philosophy studying Ethics and Foreign Languages have honed my ability to communicate well and sharpened my research skills. Yet, my professional goals in international affairs and development require a broad, multidisciplinary approach to program analysis, research and theory.
A few of the service projects I have helped at are, as I have mentioned before, helping with the Children’s Village toy drive, volunteering at the Tamale Festival as a leadership student, and serving at the Cast for Kids event. These service opportunities have impacted me greatly by showing me how beneficial a few hours of my time can be to the surrounding community. The service project I feel has impacted me the most is Cast for Kids. The focus of this day is teaching water safety and giving children with disabilities the chance to fish. During the last two years that I have participated in, I have taken pictures of our volunteers and their fishing buddies and helped cook for the luncheon afterward.
For example, in middle school, I was a member of NJHS. Through NJHS, I helped out with various different service projects that helped those in need. As well, in the past I have volunteered to help sort books for the Ridge Meadows Library and assist the librarians, spending an hour or two a week at Ridge Meadows after school for a few months. I have also volunteered numerous times at the Ridge Meadows Carnival, demonstrating both service and leadership because I am not only volunteering, but also taking charge of a group of kids at the carnival. I have also helped out both last year and this year by packing lunches for got your backpack, taking time away from my lunch in order to help others.
I love helping those in need and I have volunteered throughout my community. For example, I have helped host parties for young children, cooperated with my fellow students while participating in assisting organize school events, providing services to teachers and faculty, inspiring cheerleaders on our school’s cheer team, and more. I serve my community in many ways that affect me but also other people.
My favorite act of service that I have ever done was through the school’s project based learning. I had heard that the NWC Men’s Basketball Team was building a house a Haitian family who’s house had collapsed with all their belongings. I then contacted the men’s basketball coach asking if my group and I could raise money to buy items for their house. We organized a traditional bake sale, as well as an online bake sale, to raise money for the family. In the midst of baking 40 dozen cookies and 38 dozen cupcakes, I was coordinating with a missionary in Haiti, Krisie Mompremier, who knew what the family needed most.
I helped my community by organizing and managing my church's blessing box since it supplies my community food and other resources to people that are as not as fortunate. Finally, I helped my community by assisting with the Reading High School Alumni Yearly Banquet since it allowed the alumni to improve the core health of the community since they play a major part in my community in various ways. I also plan to do more community service to assist all of the different communities I am a part of, doing this will also help me

For as long as I can remember, my mother has had a human service profession and provided me with daily examples of how to help others. One of my earliest memories is riding out a hurricane while we stayed in the adult group home where my mother worked, assisting with safety measures for residents and providing comfort to her community. My mother worked in multiple residential programs throughout my life, specializing her work with individuals with developmental and physical disabilities.
I credit most to volunteering where it has inspired me to become a Lifeguard by indoctrinating me with the skills of courage, responsibility, and leadership. I acquired empathy when my mother took me to get my first haircut. I donated my hair to Locks of Love, an institution that creates wigs for people in ill-health. It made me feel good knowing I could do something to help others. From that moment on, I donated my time in various capacities.

Community service has always impacted and motivated me in a positive way. Growing up, my parents ensured that community service was not just done for the hours, but for gratification. compassion, empathy, and leadership have been the three most rewarding attributes of serving others. Volunteering at the Latin American Association (LAA) as an Assistant English Second Language teacher was the most significant experience that I have had. Working closely with the Latin American Community in Atlanta made me realize that it is satisfying to help improves the lives of others.
