As a future educator of children, I have very high opinions of the rights of education. In this article written by Emanuella Grinberg the topic of school choice schools is discussed by the Historically Black College and Universities and Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. As stated in the article DeVos is a strong supporter of changing the cause of federal funds to move from public schools, and move to a move funding to choice schools. DeVos stated “A key priority for the administration is to develop opportunities for under deserved communities through funding and structural reforms.” Is this really the smartest decision for most states to federally change over funding for school choice to public schools? How was this true? Isn’t there laws in place like the no child left behind of the (IDEA) which offered children with whatever challenge in life an appropriate education. There are laws in place that guarantees children and students to a free public education. Choice school is where the governments give parents money to send their child to a private school for a better education. I am not a supporter of choice schools. Instead of giving parents money to send their children to a private choice school, instead the government should put that money towards public school resources to better public education for children. After meeting with the presidents and chancellors of Historically Black Colleges and Universities DeVos released this statement, “HBCU’s are the real pioneers when it comes to school choice. They are living proof that when more options are provided to students, they are afforded greater access and greater quality.” After these insightful statements were given by DeVos she was immediately backlashed by supporters and members of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. They were furious that DeVos failed to acknowledge the real reason that they were created. and
