Its finally the end of World War 1, in 1918, and me and my best friends Charlotte Greene and Evelyn Marie are returning home to Alabama from our 4 years of being war nurses in Europe. We are getting ready to board the boat to head back now. I am so so excited to see my husband, Samuel Francis, and my lovely child, Lucy Francis. I hope they still remember me and got all my letters I sent. I miss them so much, the last time I had spoken to them was right before I left on June 28th, 1914.
In December of 1913, I was in college at the University of Birmingham Medical school for 4 years and had just got my bachelor 's degree whenever they recruited me to start training for the war. It was very hard on not just me but my family to. Just knowing that I would be gone for who knows long is hard. Once they got aboard we got a lecture from the helmsman saying some specific rules for the ride there and what we all had to do once we got there. I really didn’t have anyone I knew on the boat, so I was pretty lonely and worried about my family almost the entire day. Until one day Evelyn and Charlotte came up to me while I was eating and asked if the seats next to me we 're taken and I told them they weren’t. They both sat down and just started asking questions like how old are you, how many kids do you have and just things about my life in general. After about 2 hours of talking we got to know each other much more. I could really trust these two now.
