World War I made an impact on American History, not only politically, but economically and culturally. Even though the United States join the war toward the end, it made an important move for the Triple Entente. Woodrow Wilson attempted to stay neutral during the "war to end all wars", tensions with Germany and the United States grew and made it impossible for them to not partake part of the war.

The United States wanted to stay neutral during World War I. America had the right to trade with both nations, Britain and Germany; America decided not to trade with Germany, because they would had to defy British blockade. In addition to the trade taken place with Great Britain, America was trying to use different methods to send supplies to England. A German submarine sank the British passenger Lusitania, which was carrying passengers and munitions. Germany attack the ship with warning causing the deaths of many Americans. This was the first time in American History that such an amount of soldiers fought over seas for such a long time. Woman took an important role during the war and they were able to served in auxiliary roles in hospital and offices. In the mean time the Selection Service Act brought million men to joined various branches. Also, African Americans were fighting for the same country, but in segregated facilities and most of them were assigned to no combat duty. After the war African Americans expected to be treated with respect and the same rights whites posses, but whites attitude did not change. African Americans determination to fight for their rights grew, In addition to women's suffrage and the approval of the 19th amendment. Propaganda was really important during the war and changed many Americans
