Would you believe me if I said propaganda posters could change the course of history? They changed the course of history by shaping the outcome of the war. Moreover, propaganda posters during WWII were a way to shape public opinion through various techniques. After studying these WWII propaganda posters, I noticed the most used techniques are imagery, diction, and persuasive appeal. Again, propaganda posters changed the outcome of WWII by using different techniques to appeal to the public while also shaping their opinion. The first main technique that was commonly used among propaganda posters during WWII was imagery. Imagery is the use of visual elements like symbols and layouts to propose a specific message. Imagery can be used as a powerful tool to persuade and manipulate the audience. One example of a poster that uses strong imagery has a big statue figure with all the national service workers. This poster imagery is used to convey the message of unity and collective responsibility. Another example of a poster that uses imagery is the Air Defense Home Defense poster. Diction is the specific use of words to create meaning and impact for the message. The people in charge of creating the propaganda posters had to choose words carefully because of the lack of space. One example of a poster that uses good diction is the Every Minute Counts poster. This poster is filled to the max, it has a man, a clock, and buildings in the back, while at the same time having 3 open spots for words.
