Wake Forest Saturday MBA Program Application Essay
Knowing that less than 1% of orthopedic surgery residency spots are given to foreign trained physicians like me, always sparked a fire to consistently stride for excellence and to one day achieve this goal. Therefore, I completed the 3 parts of the United States Medical Licensing Exams (USMLE´s) while still a student in Colombia, undertook a research fellowship in Fort Lauderdale, worked as a project manager for a grant, wrote studied and performed statistical analysis and presentation of studies at National and International meetings. This challenge was extremely difficult, but thanks to a supportive team of mentors, I was able to learn how to do all these tasks and later became the 2017 physician scientist for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Wake Forest. My research team continues to work strongly on this topic as healthcare is one of the most complicated and evolving businesses in the U.S. and thus we believe that by studying this topic we can shape the future of healthcare. We have been published our studies in the official journal of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), which is the leading organization for hip and knee arthroplasty in the U.S, which cost around 7 billion a year to Medicare. This demonstrates my commitment to better healthcare economic understanding and my desire to improve the system. Thus, I am pursuing higher education in the topic of economics, as to one day impact millions of Americans in need of orthopedic
