There are many important texts in the world today. Many of these inform humans about how to live their lives and what should be important in their lives. It’s texts like these that influence and motivate people to live their lives to the fullest. This was most likely Henry David Thoreau’s vision when he wrote his famous text entitle Walden. Thoreau went to Walden Pond for two years with only his bare necessities. He didn’t even take money. When living here, Henry David Thoreau discovered many important things about life and documented them and turned them into a book. Henry David Thoreau’s text, Walden, is very important for many reasons. Thoreau’s book, Walden, is a very important text because it reminds humans to be simple. Thoreau argues that complexity can ruin a life. This pertains to us, even today. When people complicate their lives, they are usually wasting their energy and not enjoying life. Thoreau exclaims, “Simplicity! Simplicity! Simplicity!” It is very important to live a simple life. Thoreau argues and a complex life is almost not worth living. The world, in this day in age, revolves around money. Thoreau argues that materialistic values show a lack of self-reliance. People rely on money when they don’t have to. Thoreau says, “Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.” In saying this, Thoreau argues that money and fame are not the truth, they are not necessary for a happy and successful life. Thoreau went to Walden Pond for two years without any currency and had fun one could say. He discovered many things about life and about nature. He enjoyed life and had almost no complications.
