Walgreens a company that was founded in 1901 has grown in the past century into one of the largest drug store in the United States. It has currently 8,175 stores throughout and currently sits at roughly $66 per Share (WBA). With a various number of stores, it is important to look at each community Walgreens to see how they are run. I had the great opportunity to get in contact with a general manager from one of these local stores. The four are planning, organizing, influencing/ leading, controlling. He believes that both Planning and Organizing is 20% each while leading and controlling are both 30%. It was described that every aspect is important and not one is much more important than the other. When it pertains to this, he told me that with any good manager especially with the level he is now, it is important to realize that you will use all four aspects in a daily basis. In his opinion, the three qualities he looks for in an employee are: motivated, be keen to learn, and friendliness. This as well bodes well with the company focus on customers as within their stores they are pushing more into proving that personal experience with their customers. With this, he has employees that are ready to help and to provide exponential customer service. With this it is important to know the companies culture, he has described that Walgreens is bringing back it’s old culture that in a way reflects much more of a personal experience for its customers. From the store standpoint alone he described his staff as a big family that is all diverse.
