Walk Two Moon Bybanks Analysis

In the book, Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, the setting of Bybanks is important to Salamanca because it has everything she loves.

One of the things Sal loved the most about Bybanks was nature. When Sal lived with her mom and dad in Bybanks she had a lot of trees and animals around her, like pigs, cows, a maple tree, and especially the singing tree. So moving away from all those things significantly impacted her. On page one Sal says “No trees? I said. This is where we’re going to live?.” Another quote that goes along is on page ten “It wasn't enough grass to keep a cow alive for five minutes.” These quotes show that nature was very important to Sal because she was asking about trees because she loves them so much. When Sal’s mom was still in Bybanks they always picked blackberries together. When her mom kissed the tree Sal kissed the same tree and could taste some blackberries so Sal started to kiss all kinds of trees, each with a different taste. On page 29 Sal says, “And then I started thinking about the blackberries, and I remembered a time my mother and I walked around the rims and the fields and pastures in Bybanks, picking blackberries.” This shows blackberries are very important to Sal because it was a good memory about her mom instead of the one where she yelled at her. Also when Sal kissed the tree she could taste blackberries so Sal started to love blackberries. When Sal thought about her mom she thought about blackberries. And she always talked and wrote about Blackberries. This shows Sal loves blackberries.

The last thing Sal loved about Bybanks was the singing tree. When Sal’s mom was still with Sal they would hang out at the singing tree and it would always sing but when Sal’s mom left the tree did not sing anymore. On page 93 Gram said “Oh Salamanca,” she said. “A singing tree!” She pulled at Gramps’s sleeve. This proves Sal loved the singing
