Electric Cars are Better for the World and Wallet Recent innovations in automobile technology have led to much more efficient machines roaming the streets. Although this, there are many misconceptions about them, leading to the masses lack of acceptance and adoption of the money and earth saving idea. Although electric cars have their fair share of expenses and hidden fees, in the long run, they are better than fuel powered gas and diesel cars. Electric cars, as opposed to fueled cars, save tremendous amounts of money, cause less pollution and are better for the environment. Although one might think that fuel powered cars only cost a lot at the pump, there are a lot of hidden fees ultimately leading to electric cars being better for an ever …show more content…

Also, wait times vary on location and people. To top off a car, it takes an average of about three to six minutes. To fully recharge a electric car like a Tesla Model S at home, calculating the vast amount of variables, takes about three to four hours. However, with the Tesla’s range of 265 miles, very rarely would someone spend it all and have to wait for it to fully recharge before going on with their day. An average person simply goes home at the end of the and puts it to charge when they go to sleep, meaning that it does not take any time out of their day because it is going on while they are asleep. Technically, this means charging a Tesla or any other electric car for that matter takes no time out of your day compared to a fueled car, which can not be left at the pump while you sleep. However, if a Tesla’s battery does run out which very realistically will happen on road trips, Tesla has various “SuperChargers” nationwide which take an average of half an hour to fully recharge the car. Typically, a gallon of petrol or diesel can cost anywhere between a dollar to five dollars. This is just for a gallon, which based on the car, can get you anywhere between ten and thirty-five miles. To fully recharge a Tesla, prices are also dependant on many variables. To those who purchased a new Model S or Model X, Tesla has …show more content…

That being said, all this oil being used does not simply vanish. In diesel and gas powered cars, the waste of oil come out of the exhaust. In gas cars, much more carbon monoxide is produced during combustion when compared to diesel cars. What comes out of the exhaust of petrol vehicles is CO, NOx and CO2. None of these elements are good to breathe in and poise serious health risks. Petrol is a lighter hydrocarbon than diesel. It also does not have as many nitrogen atoms and is primarily composed of carbon and hydrogen. Therefore, petrol is a cleaner and more uniform carbon than diesel. When compared to petrol, diesel has a higher sulphur content which is toxic. High nitrogen content in diesel along with sulfur equals more NOx which carries major health risks. Diesel aso has longer carbon chains per unit volume meaning it has more energy and more powerful. However, the longer the carbon chain, the more likely other more toxic elements are attached. The longer carbon chains also mean that one can go further off of a gallon of diesel than a gallon of petrol. This means that “an electric car like the Model S has almost four times lower CO2 per mile than an equivalent gas-powered car” (Wade
