Walt Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 5, 1901.Walt was one of five children, he had three brothers and a sister. Growing up Walt lived in Marceline, Missouri with his family. While he lived in Missouri he began his artistic journey. Walt began drawing and painting pictures and then would sell them to neighbors. When Walt was around the age of 10 he and his family moved to Kansas City. Walts uncle Mike Martin also lived in Kansas City and was a train engineer. Many of the animators resigned from the company, and it was years before they got fully recovered. Once everything at the studio was recovered Walt decided to do packaged features. Packaged features are groups of shorts all put together to make on full length movie. By the time 1950 rolled back around Walt was back to doing animated films. The next few films that the Disney Brothers created were Cinderella, Treasure Island, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, and 101 Dalmations. In 1955, Walt Disney opened Disneyland in Anaheim, California. To build the theme park it cost a total of 17 million dollars. Opening day was extremly hectic, having multipule accidents and many counterfeit invitations. However, the theme park soon became a place where children and the rest of their family could meet Disney characters, enjoy rides, and explore.
