THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY
“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” (Walt Disney) The Disney Company is a vast empire spreading across the world with resorts, films. Networks, and merchandise. As a Consultant for this magical company, it’s important to observe the core microeconomic principles to ensure the expansion of the brand of Disney in the many markets it leads. This includes the demand of new park amenities, films, and merchandise. How all of these expansions will help the company and it will affect us financially.
History
It had all started with two brothers on October 16th,1923 when M.J. Winkler contracted to distribute the “Alice Comedies” that Walt Disney had created in Kansas. Back then in California The Walt Disney Company was known as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio. A company created and equally owned by Roy and Walt Disney. But then from the recommendation of Roy, they changed the company name to the Walt Disney Studio. After The Alice comedies, Walt created an all cartoon series staring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Over the next decade they opened the first foreign park in Tokyo, established a new label, Touchstone Pictures. Yet during that time the Disney stocks were undervalued, and to help keep the Disney Company together Michael Eisner and Frank Wells became chairman and president. From there the Company created their own cable channel, The Disney Channel, collaborated with George Lucus and Francis Coppola and brought Captain EO, Star Tours, and Splash Mountain to the parks.
