Walt Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 5th in 1901. He was one of five children in the family. Disney’s father Elias Disney was an Irish-Canadian and his mother Flora Call Disney was German-American (Biography.com Editors, n.d.). Walt became interested in drawing and started selling his first sketches to neighbors when he was only seven years old (d23.com editors, n.d.). Walt Disney attended McKinley High School in Chicago, where he took drawing and photography classes and was contributing for the school paper as a cartoonist (Biography.com Editors, n.d.). After that happened, Walt and his brother Roy decided to move to Hollywood where they began the Disney Brothers' Studio (Biography.com Editors, n.d.). That is where Walt became a well-known Hollywood figure. Mickey Mouse was created in 1928 that opened so many new doors to everything in the future. Throughout the years many other popular movies have been created like Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty and 101 Dalmatians and so on (Biography.com Editors, n.d.). The next huge step in Walter’s life is the opening of $17 million Disneyland theme park on July 17, 1955 (d23.com editors, n.d.). It was entertaining tourists from around the world and eventually Disneyland has branched out globally. Sometime after that Walt Disney had plans to expand to Florida; however during construction process in 1966, Disney was diagnosed with lung cancer and not too long after that he died on December 15, 1966, at the age of 65 (Biography.com Editors, n.d.).
