Walt Disney is in America’s History Hall of Fame because of his accomplishments throughout his lifetime. He is also in the hall of fame because of his entrepreneurship. In his lifetime Disney started his own animation studio, came out with the first sound cartoon, the first color cartoon, and the first full length animation movie. He later built the first theme park. Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Hermosa, Illinois, a small city inside Chicago. Disney’s birth name is Walter Elias Disney, but he went by Walt for short. He was the son of Flora Call Disney and Elias Disney. Disney was one of five, there were four boys and one girl. When Disney came back his brother, Roy, got him a job at Pesmen-Rubin Art Studio. Disney got laid off at Pesmen-Rubin Art Studio, so he started working at Kansas City Film Ad Company. After experimenting with a camera at Kansas City Film Ad Company, Disney decided to open his own animation business. The first company Disney started was Laugh-O-Gram films and this studio was signed with a local Kansas City theater. Cartoons were becoming bigger, so Disney was able to run his animations. At the time, Disney was not able to pay for the park alone, so signed with ABC and made a deal that they would give Disney 500,000 dollars in exchange for one hour of cartoons a week. Then, in 1953 Disney commissioned with Stanford Research institute to find a location for the theme park. Disney found a location in Anaheim, California and he chose Anaheim because it was easy access off the freeway from Los Angeles, which meant many visitors. Before the park was built, Disney knew two things. The first thing was Disney wanted the park to be called Disneyland and second that he wanted the park to be the happiest place on Earth. Both of these were accomplished. Disneyland was finally built and it opened on July 17, 1955. Disneyland was the first major theme park built. On opening day, there was only supposed to be about six-thousand people, but many more came causing food to run out, water shortages, and gas leaks. Despite all of these problems, visitors loved the park, and people kept coming back. Disneyland was very successful, so Disney wanted to open another park called Walt Disney World in Florida. The problem was when Disney made these plans he was diagnosed with lung cancer and on December 15, 1966 he died. Roy wanted Walt Disney World to happen so he took the plans and completed the park for Walt. Walt Disney World opened on October 1,
