A Dream Come True Walter Elias Disney is seen as a hero in the eyes of many. Disney is a man who discovered different methods of bringing back happiness into a countless number of lives. He transformed the animation and entertainment workforce. Through his bravery and perseverance he achieved his dreams. He once said, “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them” (Quotes). Walt Disney has an immeasurable number of traits to be admired for, including his: imagination, bold choices, and positive disposition. Disney uncovered that Universal Pictures had bought the trademark for his character Oswald. He was betrayed by most of his creative designers. Iwerk was the only one who remained loyal to him. Once again, the two were forced to start over. They began working on a new character. Once the finishing touches were added to the drawing, Mickey Mouse was concieved. The first two animated shorts did not bring Mickey Mouse the fame Disney and Iwerk anticipated. The third brought immediate success; Disney gave his voice for Mickey Mouse and ‘Steamboat Willie’ was launched. In the years following, he released a series of musical shorts entitled ‘Silly Symphonies’. It was during the year of 1934 when Disney dreamed of producing the first full-length animation feature. The public thought he was insane, and believed this was going to be Disney’s downfall. Even with this doubt, Disney had a dream and was determined to fulfill it. In 1934, ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ went into production. Three years later, the film premiered in Los Angeles at the Carthay Circle Theater. The film proceeded to become the most successful film of the year. ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ received eight million dollars. As a result of this, Disney brought about a new era, the Golden Age of Animation (Walt). Without his desire to achieve greatness, the fields of entertainment and animation might not have tackled the milestones they did. He was so inspiring to people because of his passion, optimism, and bravery to take risks. Disney also helped the United States during a time of war. The 1940’s, during the time of World War II, were tough on the Disney Studio. The United States government was using the Disney Studio as a supply base for the American troops. The government also had the Disney corporation make training and propaganda films for the armed forces to raise awareness of the war. Disney was pleased to help with these requests, even when he was not receiving payment for his works (Disney’s). Disney has opened new doors and opportunities, because he has truly shown anything is possible.
