Most people know what the Walt Disney Company is, but not many know the story behind it. Walter Elias Disney made people’s dreams come true; his company continues his vision with the help of new CEO’s and advanced animation programs. The company has been through many changes in its lifetime; adding more companies and expanding overall. Walt was born on December 5, 1901, to parents Elias and Flora Disney in Chicago, Illinois. He lived a majority of his life in Marceline, Missouri, where he developed his love for drawing and painting; his father being a big musical influence. Roy Disney hired C.V. Wood to the build the park that would be called Disneyland; it was completed in July 1955 within its budget. Wood and Walt’s egos clashed and right after the park opened, Disney fired him. Disney’s idea to build a park around custom rides led to the growth of a new industry in theme park development. Arrow Dynamics built many of the rides in Fantasyland and would later build the first tubular tracked steel rollercoaster for Disney’s Matterhorn. In ’63 they unveiled the Enchanted Tiki Room that was the first to use Audio Animatronics in a theme park attraction; the animated mechanical characters became a staple in Disneyland (Niles). In the 50’s, Americans began to spend more time at home and watch more TV; Walt decided to take advantage of this by starting a Disneyland TV series in 1954. About 4 million Americans tuned in each week and Disney started producing more shows including Davey Crockett, which was another big success.
