It is safe to say that many people, old and young, have seen a Disney movie at least once in their lifetime. From simple beginnings, Walt Disney has captivated millions of people worldwide and has grown into a multifaceted conglomerate of business and sub-businesses dedicated to the entertainment industry. Walt Disney Animation Studios is just one of those subsets and has had many names over the years. Originally founded as Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio in 1923, the studio was recognized as the “premier American animation studio” (Cavalier p. 14-160). Walter Elias “Walt” Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 5, 1901. Other short films include Alice in Cartoonland (1923), Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (1927), and Silly Symphonies (1929). In 1937, the studio released their first full-length animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. The film was met with worldwide success. In order to meet the expectations of his audience, Disney felt the need to increase the size of the studio. He used the profit that was made from Snow White to make a deposit on 51 acres of land in Burbank, California. There, his crew began designing a more modern studio that was specifically for making animated films. The lot included a number of different buildings. The Animation building is in the center of the lot, which is where the animators and artists do their work. Across from this building are the Inking, Painting, and Camera buildings, where the artwork is completed and photographed. Next to these buildings is the Cutting building, where post-production takes place. Sound facilities include dubbing, effects, scoring, and voice recording studios. Many of these buildings are linked by an underground tunnel
