What do you think when you see football? One may say it reminds me of every Sunday, people may think of exercise and discipline, or they think of family and friends. If you look at a football team you see people who have different skin, have a different religion, and who may talk different than you. Back in the 1950’s and 60’s white people did not get along with blacks at all. They had separate bathrooms, made people take different busses, and even make blacks and whites use seperate showers. Then when whites did not get along with blacks it changed America when the first Negro person joined professional sports. It had a huge impact because it was one of the first steps to towards peace, and it showed that we need to accept everyone, like when Jackie Robinson was the first Negro person to join professional baseball, and many people were not happy, and then when he joined it showed whites need to be more open to the different races. When football became popular in 1934 to 1946, there were no black players in the league at the time, once again this problem showed that we need to be open to more races. According to Salon.com, they talk about the percent of different races in the NFL and “70 % of the players are black.” This was impactful on America because it showed in America that it is ok for other races to play professional sports, and showed the people that there is nothing wrong with other
