The Life of Walter P. Chrysler Would you believe that one of the most successful car companies was owned by a man who didn’t go to college? If no, you might want to change your mind. Walter P. Chrysler achieved this by owning the car company ‘Chrysler’ and he didn’t spend a single second in college. Chrysler loved being around cars and messing with them, so that’s what he made his career into. Walter Percy Chrysler was a white man who was always seen wearing nice clothing and his hair slicked back on the top (britannica.com). He was famous for owning the car company named ‘Chrysler’. Instead, at the age of 17 he began an apprenticeship in a railroad machine shop. It didn’t pay very well, so he looked for something else as soon as that ended (allpar.com). Chyrsler’s father was his inspiration and role model, he wanted to just be just like him (kshs.org). So he left home as soon as the apprenticeship ended, looking for work in Wellington, KS., Denver, CO., and Cheyenne, WY with his family supporting everything he did. Sadly, he found nothing. He hopped freight cars to go to Utah and Idaho (allpar.com). Once he got enough money from working as a manager for the American Locomotive Company, he moved to Oelwein, Iowa in 1908 (kshs.org). Even through the hard times, Chrysler loved to mess around with cars (allpar.com). Eventually he bought his first car, which was his dream car, a white Locomotive for $5,000. Before he started to drive it he disassembled it and put it back together. He did this because he always thought that before you can use something, you must know it works.
