Walter Lee Younger, more of a self-centered man about dreaming to own a business. Walter throughout the story stuck with the same dream and tried his best, but still, fate did not help him. A dream does not come true until one works hard for it. Walter in his situation did not plan ahead yet put all his hopes on the money. He was more likely similar to a line described by the poet “Deferred Dreams” by Langston Hughes, like a person who was running from his responsibility happening to “ fester like a sore--and then run…” Due to his lack of attention and lack of hard work he was unsuccessful with his plans for himself and his family’s future. Mama dreamed about owning their own house and settling in life without worries. As the story played Mama still kept on working, she knew that it was an only way to keep her hopes high and buy a house leading to a better future. In the poem “Dream Deferred” the poet mentions that sometimes dreams “just say like a heavy load,” the dream of owning the house a long time wish and it could have been viewed impossible yet by preventing dream to defer Mama strived to save up money to buy this house of her own. She mentions, “ 'We was going to set away, little by little, don't you know, and buy a little place out in Morgan Park. We had even picked out the house, Looks right dumpy today. But Lord, child, you should know all the dreams I had 'bout buying that house and fixing it up and making me a little garden in the back...” Despite failures, she was keen to buy this house. If she would have let it go, the Younger family would have never found happiness at the end. Her passion to help others and give a better future for her family was her main goal yet having a big obstacle in her ways like her love life and the money. In the poem, “Deferred Dreams” by Langston Hughes, the poet mentions sometimes dreams can be “crust and sugar over- like a syrupy sweet?” Beneatha in her situation has an easier way to escape from her worries by choosing either Asagi or George knowing that either of them will give her a beautiful life and help to pursue her passion, yet, she tends not to let go of her dreams because if dream deferred they cannot be got back, it will just remain as one’s past but not one’s future. Her passion for her career is when she realized that being a doctor is not just an occupation it is career build in the foundation of helping others, in the play she stated to Asagi, “That was what one person could do for another, fix him up – sew up the problem, make him all right again. That was the marvelous thing in the world…I wanted to do that. I always thought it was the one concrete thing in the world that a human being could do. Fix up the sick, you know – and make them whole again. This was truly being God…I wanted to cure. It used to be so important to me. I wanted to cure. It used to matter. I used to care. I mean about people and how their bodies hurt…” A passion left behind cannot be gained after years or even months, meaning putting
