The three authors touch on literature with passion, "The portable phonograph" written by Walter Van Tilburg Clark, "The Lamp At Noon" written by Sinclair Ross, and "The Possibility Of Evil" written by Shirley Jackson are filled with elements of good literature which makes each of them a good read. Each short story is example of good literature because they deal with subjects of lasting significance, they are beautifully written, and the authors illuminate the world of nature. All of the stories are good but "The Possibility Of Evil" written by Shirley Jackson soars above with it's intriguing touch on on dual personality, which makes the story a beautiful read. "High in the air there is wind, for though the veil of dusk the clouds could be seen gliding rapidly south and changing shapes"(Walter Van Tilburg Clark pg 126). This author provides a rich view for the reader to imagine and maintain interest. Clark exaggerates his view on things throughout the shirt story, so the text connects with the reader and builds a more exciting read. Also , the short story "The Lamp At Noon" written by Sinclair Ross is example of good literature because of the way he paints a picture in the mind of the reader. Ross illustrates nature when Ellen says "that's why the soil drifts- that's why In a year or two there'll be nothing left but hard clay"(Sinclair Ross 113) this shows how dried up and eroded there land is. To begin with, the author Clark, touches on nature with his ability to bring his literature to life by intriguing quotes that helps the reader picture settings. "Out of the sunset, through the dead matted grassland distillates weed stalks of the prairie the narrow deeply rutted remains of the road"(Walter Van Tilburg Clark pg126) is a quote that both pictures the setting and keeps the reader reading. The author Admires the little things in life that promote love that allows the reader to feel for the characters to build a relationship for a better read and that's what good literature should express. Also, the short story "the possibility of evil" written by Shirley Jackson is example of beautiful written literature because of the authors touch on nature, her ability to keep people reading and the stories interesting turn of events. In the first place the author uses a suspenseful 3rd person narrative who builds tension throughout the short story to a point where it explodes with conflict. Also, the author uses elements of fiction to build suspense by using a 3rd person narrative to highlight keep points to allow the reader to pin point plots to create a better read.
