Waremart Foods was established in 1967 by Ralph Ward and Bud Williams. As years went on ownership of the company shifted and expanded, becoming an employee owned grocery store by the name of WinCo Foods by 1999. In 1985 WinCo Foods Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) was created, thus helping their employees set a stock in the company as well as provide them with a sufficient retirement plan. WinCo Foods motto is “Low Prices: Ever Aisle. Every Department. Every Day.” Their goal is to compare their prices with their competitors so they can have the lowest most economical choice for their customers. Many organizations do not provide sufficient benefits for their employees but being an employee owned business they strive to make sure those who put in a lot of time at their business are taken care of. On the other hand, customers are taken care of by the strategic planning of the company to cut out middlemen in the business by directly buying goods from farms and factories, not allowing the use of credit cards as well as making customers bag their own groceries (Tuttle, 2013). There are not many articles on the friendliness of employees but I know first hand that the managers expect all their employees to be friendly and help every single customer. Recently, they employed a new rule that as an employee you must speak to every customer and at least ask them how they are doing or if they need any help finding anything. However, the store located on Sheldon Road may do this but their employees do not like pleased to be working there nor do they approach you in a friendly manner.
