Can you imagine losing a close friend or family member? Would it be more of a loss if they were killed by someone that they trusted and were close to them? Well one cold day in January of 1999 that is exactly what happened to a teenage girl by the name of Hae Min Lee. In this murder case there was one culprit, but he could not even recall that day. Adnan Syed was the ex-boyfriend of Hae, and he had plenty of reasons to want to commit such a heinous crime. Adnan Syed is guilty of killing Hae Lee because he has no alibi, no memory of that day, and because of their several relationship issues. First of all, Adnan had no alibi for the day that Hae was killed. No one remembered seeing Adnan after school when he was supposed to be at track, and …show more content…
He claimed to have no memory of that random day in January, but a few things stuck out. First, he got a call from a police officer by the name of Scott Adcock asking Adnan if he knew where Hae was since she had been reported missing. “I spoke to Mr. Syed and he advised me that, ah, he did see the victim in school that day, and that um, he was supposed to get a ride from the victim, but he got detained at school and she got tired of waiting and left” (“The Breakup”). Adnan did admit that he got a call the police officer but he didn’t act like that was a big deal. If most people got a call from the police that would stick out in their minds as a big deal. He also showed strange behavior towards Jay. If Adnan was truly innocent he would be extremely disturbed that Jay would accuse him of murdering his own ex-girlfriend. Adnan would have said that Jay was lying, but he never said that Jay was wrong about the …show more content…
If Adnan had strangled Hae like the State said, then his DNA would have been on Hae. But there was little evidence that put Adnan with Hae when she died. There was Adnan’s DNA in her car, but he had been in her car many times and there is no way to tell how old the DNA was (“Inconsistencies”). However, in many interviews with Jay he told detectives that they had cleaned everything so there was no DNA evidence to be found. “Jenn tells them she drives Jay back to Westview Mall to the dumpsters back there so that Jay can retrieve the shovels and wipe the handles clean in case of fingerprints” (“Inconsistencies”). This shows that there was DNA evidence at the crime scene but Adnan and Jay had cleaned it up. Even though there is little DNA evidence to convict Adnan of the crime, there are still several key pieces of the crime that lead prosecutors to Adnan
