Christopher Columbus made a big impact on trading and religion, but was the impact he made destructive for future generations by creating violence and enslavement? Or was it beneficial for the generations to come in that he discovered the americas and spread Christianity? Did he do everything for his own benefit or the benefit of others? Christopher Columbus was a greedy person who only cared about himself, he should be remembered as a slave owner and murderer because that’s who he was.

Christopher Columbus shouldn’t be so greatly remembered, his victims should be. Columbus still has statues of him around the US celebrating him. Why are they celebrating him? He disrupted a community by taking them from their home and forcing them into labor and believing in Christianity whether it was in their interest or not. Columbus and his men were supposed to convert people to Chrisitanity peacefully, they said it was the only way to do so. Jesus Christ spread Christianity and gained new followers by being peaceful. The Indians had their own community, culture and beliefs before Columbus had arrived. They never agreed to be taken away from their land and robbed of their culture. Columbus threatened to harm the Indians if they did not agree to follow their rules. He stole them from their land and exposed them to many diseases, which killed many people. Indians were forced to work for the Spanish, and in return, they were taught how to follow Christianity. The Indians never stated that they wanted to learn Christianity.
