Gallipoli landing Failure Even before the allied troops left their home towns, the poor and ignorant deceptions of war where already determined the fates of thousands of men. The Gallipoli campaign was fuelled by the allied troops desire to conquer he Turkish capital Constantinople in 1915. The key factors that contributed to the campaigns failure, where the lack of training and preparation as well as poor communication upon landing. However just because the campaign itself failed it doesn’t meant that the ANZAC’s legacy was a failure as they are now living legends. However, even though the campaign was a failure at the time, it helped develop a strong, national legend based on camaraderie and unity of the ANZAC soldiers. The film “Gallipoli” by Peter Weir portrays the ANZAC’S poor attitude and lack of rules, the ANZAC’S spent their training time having fun and acting in a laid back manor. A common belief that the ANZAC’S had was that they may as well enjoy themselves because soon they might be dead, “this is wartime, in a month we might be dead” this quote from Gallipoli shows how the common attitude towards war and training. When the ANZAC’S where meant to be training they would often play ball games such as AFL , or go out to town and sight see and haggle with locals. This poor attitude and disregard for the rules earned the ANZAC’S a reputation throughout the British Commanders and Officers for being a rowdy laid back and generally unorganized. Because of this the ANZAC’S had very little training and their attitude towards war worsened leading to the demise of the Gallipoli
