Who is not well known but sets the tone of the day all day every day for 365 days? The sun god Helios played many roles in ancient Greek society and was an uncommon religious figure but soon was picked up in Rome. He does make an appearance in The Odyssey with Odysseus and his crew. He also has very few myths written about him and his family, along with having conflicts with other gods. Not much is known about him but he has quite a large family. Without him, there would be no day and the Earth would have been cast into an endless ice age. And a halo. He has an incredible ability to see and hear everything despite having the power of the sun. HE mostly used his power for the greater good and was not known to be a corrupt god. “Helios’ powers were immense. He was strong, fiery, bright, and hardworking. He was also considered a very wise and intellectually gifted god.” (The Story of Helios, the Greek God of the Sun). He is very responsible with his power and understands the consequences of wrongfully using his power. There was one time when he caught Aphrodites, the goddess of love and beauty, having an affair with Ares, the god of war. Aphrodites was married to Hephaestus, the god of fire, and having an affair with Ares was against the law. Helios then went to Hephaestus to tell him that when he was away Aphrodites had an affair. The next time that Aphrodite would meet up with Ares, Helios had set a trap for them to get caught in. After this matter was dealt with and Ares was banished from Olympus then Aphrodites would get revenge on Helios by making him fall in love with someone else. Aphrodite did this by using an uncontrollable love potion she gave to Helios without his knowledge. “Helios (who was, at the time, happily consorting Clytie) fall madly in love with Leucothoe, the daughter of the Persian king Orchamus and Eurynome.” (“Helios - Greek Gods”). He was also said to be responsible for helping life thrive he also was said to have a jaunty attitude. Also that his laughter helped plants grow and thrive along with the sunlight he provided. His journey across the sky was very simple but could only be done by him because the sun can cause severe damage. His own children struggle to handle the responsibility and one of them even paid the price for it. He does value his horse, also known as steeds, and the horses symbolize him. “Four horses, Aethon, Pyrois, Phlegon and Eous, drew his chariot.” (“Helios - Greek God Of The Sun - Facts And Information”). He would work with his sisters, Eos(dawn) and Selene(moon). Eos would paint the dawn and he would make his journey across the sky then Selena would make her journey across the sky to make
