Julius Caesar was a dictator in Rome. Some people may think that he was a hero, but evidence shows he was a tyrant. He became a military general for one reason, gaining power. He broke the Roman laws and crossed the Rubicon River with his army. Even though the laws prohibited it, he crossed the river anyway and didn’t respect Roman laws. He was nice to his people so they would like him and he could control them for longer. All he wanted was power and he fooled his people into thinking he was a hero. The 12 tables stated that they would never have one person ruling all of Rome for a long time, but Caesar did it anyway. The laws said that they could only have a ruler when it was an emergency, and then they would go back to a Republic. At first
