The great speech of Mark Antony, has convinced me that Brutus and his team of conspirators have wrongfully killed our heroic and wonderful leader, Julius Caesar. Brutus tried to convince us that his actions were justified, but he was really full of lies. Mark Antony showed us how he loved and believed in Caesar. Caesar was all for the people of Rome, and cared very deeply for those less fortunate than him. Although Brutus wanted us to believe Caesar was using his ambition to take advantage of his power, he was actually using it to benefit the nation. Caesar's ambition to help his people was shown in many ways throughout Antony’s speech. Antony proclaimed that “he hath brought many captives home to Rome” (III.II.97). After Brutus gave us his speech, we were all convinced that Caesar would have one day turned into a ruthless dictator. During his speech Brutus said “believe me for mine honor” (Julius caesar III.II.15-16). It is absurd that Brutus would even consider himself as honorable. He tried to convince us that Caesar's ambition would lead to dictatorship. Brutus has no evidence to back up his claims. There is no evidence that Caesar wanted to be a tyrant and hurt the common people of Rome. Brutus’ lack of evidence helped convince my fellow Romans and I that Brutus is dishonorable and crooked. Brutus then asks us if we would rather have Caesar living “and die all slaves, than that Caesar were dead, to live all freemen” (III.II.24-26). Again, Brutus provided no evidence to support his belief that we would be turned into slaves. With all of the evidence we have, Caesar wanted to make Rome a better place for all people. It is impossible for Brutus to predict how Caesar would have been in the future, so we can only look back on what Caesar did in the past, which was to help his
