The first ruler that unified all eight islands under one ruler was Kamehameha the Great. He was raised by his uncle Kalaniopuu and got trained by Kekuhaupio to become a strong and skilled warrior. Kamehameha won many battles after making many allies and enemies. He finally succeeded in the unification of the islands when Kaumualii surrendered Kaua’i. Kamehameha was an effective leader because he cared about this people, was responsible, and was generous to others. Kamehameha was an effective leader because he cared about his people and land. After Kamehameha unified all the islands, he took an active part in rebuilding the damaged land. Kamehameha was caring about his people by supporting theme and helping theme so that they all lived in an organized society. One way Kamehameha was responsible was because he kept the trustworthy governors on the outer islands. This shows that he was responsive because it keeps the society safe. Some people that chose for theme to rule the islands were John young and Keeaumoku. They were chosen to rule the outer islands because they had already showed loyalty and bravery to Kamehameha during the unification. If he put the untrustworthy people on the outer islands, they could cause trouble. This example was something that changed after the unification.
