The Narrator has a mental illness that sharpens some of his senses. The narrator’s illness leaves no room for reason in his mind. Was the Narrator responsible for his crime? Yes I think the narrator was still responsible for his crime because the narrator knew what he was doing. When the story begins the narrator is very nervous but the narrator claims he is not. When the old man looks at the narrator the narrators blood freezes. When the narrator goes to the old man’s room he has already put the lantern in the room but it takes the narrator an hour to stick his head in the doorway. (Poe 90) The narrator thinks he can hear the old man’s heart beat and that drives the narrator insane. The narrator does want anyone to know he committed the crime
