Was Thomas Jefferson a Hypocrite? “No man will ever carry out the Presidency the same reputation which earned him into it.” Thomas Jefferson was not a hypocrite, and his actions show it. He stuck to his beliefs throughout all two terms of his Presidency. Jefferson acted as a common man, helped educate the less fortunate, and made the government smaller while reducing the debt. All of his actions match his beliefs. Thomas Jefferson believed that “all men are created equal.” He believed that it was important that he was not viewed as being above the common man. Jefferson wore simple clothing, and even went out without his wig. He would walk distances instead of going by horse. Jefferson’s populist actions show that he held his belief of equality
